Waiting Children

I just posted 11 new children on my waiting children page.  These children are all designated to Gladney through a partnership program with the orphanage in charge of their care.  I will be writing posts with more information about them over the next little while. Also, Gladney will be having a special webinar with Pat Marcus speaking about meeting the children.  I'll keep you posted as to when that will be!

As always, if you have any questions about any of these children or about working with Gladney please email me at erinmrtn@yahoo.com.

Edit:  I also added a new page entitled "My Family Found Me" to announce when a sweet little one is matched with a family.  So check out the good news there!  Run Run has a family!

Waiting Child- Zi Zi

Zi Zi is a six year old girl with a repaired cleft lip and palate.  She lives in southern China and she loves to sing and dance. Can't you just tell that by looking!?

Zi Zi is described as a happy and cheerful little girl. She currently lives in a foster home and attends the senior-level pre-school class. She is a smart, clever, and polite child.  According to her teacher she loves to learn and can be very inquisitive.

Zi Zi's favorite color is red. She loves to watch cartoons and is great at imitating the characters. Zi Zi’s favorite toys are her dolls, wind-up cars, blocks and jigsaw puzzles.

She has a good appetite but her favorite thing to eat is candy.  Does that sound like a six year old or what?!

Pat Marcus met her when she was in China recently and describes her as "a sweet little girl".

Zi Zi is designated to Gladney through their partnership with the orphanage in charge of her care. If you are interested in learning more about Zi Zi, please contact Judy Hayes at judy.hayes@gladney.org or 432-563-3344.

Or you can contact me at erinmrtn@yahoo.com with any questions about Zi Zi or about working with Gladney.  We have adopted through Gladney twice and I will be glad to answer any questions.

Updated Picture of Di Di!

This picture of Di Di was taken just a few weeks ago!  She is just so precious!  She is still waiting for a family.  Gladney is looking for a homestudy ready family for her.

Want To Watch A Spiderweb?

Remember the webinar (or "spiderweb" if you are Annika) Gladney held a couple of weeks ago?  It was recorded and you can view it here (part 1) and here (part 2).

Pat Marcus speaks about her time in Shanghai and JiangXi provinces in China.  She introduces some absolutely gorgeous kiddos who are waiting for families.  Some of the children are available now through Gladney's GuangMing program

Gladney has not yet received the files for the children from JiangXi, but they expect to receive them soon.  Wouldn't it be great if there were families waiting for the children's files to be available so that the children could come home as soon as possible!?

Anyway, take a look.  One of the little girls is so gorgeous I gasped out loud when I saw her picture!

And, as always, if you have questions about the children or about working with Gladney send me an email at erinmrtn@yahoo.com.  I will answer any questions I can!

About Di Di

I added another edit to this post.  It seems Di Di is still waiting for a family after all.  I know this was a very difficult time for the family who hoped to adopt her and my heart goes out to them as they make decisions that are best for their family.

Gladney is really looking for a homestudy ready family for Di Di and for Da Da.  Their files may need to go back to the CCCWA before long and it is never certain what will happen to the file after it is returned.

Please take another look at these two beautiful children!

Di Di...

Has a family!!!

I am so thankful and excited to announce that a family has decided to move ahead with adopting Di Di

Congratulations to the happy family!

Waiting Child- Qiao Qiao

Just take a look at this handsome little boy!  He just melts my heart!  He is almost 7 years old.  His special need is a repaired cleft lip and palate.   And he really needs a family to call his own.

Qiao Qiao is a cheerful boy. He currently lives with a foster family in southern China and attends the senior level pre-school class. He likes to watch TV, especially cartoons, one of his favorites is the "Pleasant Goat" cartoon. He enjoys imitating the characters he sees (that should be a hoot). His favorite toys are remote control cars and airplanes. He has a good appetite and especially likes wontons. Qiao Qiao does well in school and is described as well-mannered and hard-working.

Pat was able to spend some time with him just last week, so I'm sure we will hear some more details about him shortly.

Playing ball with Pat/
Qiao Qiao is designated to Gladney through one of their partnership programs.  To request a password to view their photo listing contact Judy Hayes at judy.hayes@gladney.org.   That way you can see his picture without anything covering his eyes.  He is such a cutie!

It always especially hurts my heart when I see a boy this age waiting for a family.  Casper is 7, and I just can't imagine him waiting like this!  Take it from a mother of three boys, boys are so much fun!

You can contact me at erinmrtn@yahoo.com if you have questions about Qiao Qiao or about working with Gladney.  We used them for both of our adoptions and would be glad to share our experience.

Waiting Child- Di Di [Edited]

Updated 09/11/2012- Di Di has a family!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Edited]
As I've been thinking about this sweet baby, I felt I needed to share another detail with you.  Part of Eliana's diagnosis was that she had a few seizures shortly after being found.  This is not something we have told a lot of people up to this point but considering that this can be a very scary-sounding problem that may keep people from pursuing adopting little Di Di, I wanted to tell you about our experience with that.  In short, it is a non-issue for our daughter.  Of course this doesn't mean that it will be for Di Di.  But please at least think about the fact that this is not a file or a picture, this is a child.  And whatever her needs may be, her greatest need is a family.

It is such an advantage to be able to speak with a physical therapist who has met a child with a diagnosis like this.  Perhaps that is why we love Pat so much!  Hopefully Pat will be available to speak with any interested families as soon as she is home from China.

As soon as I saw this precious little girl's face on a photo listing, she stood out to me.  That was several months ago and this little sweetheart is still waiting for a family.

Di Di is in an orphanage in southern China. She is only 18 months old!  Her special need is albinism.  At one point I knew so little about albinism, but I've been following a couple of blogs of families who have children with this need. You can meet some of them here and here and here.

Pat Marcus met little Di Di when she was in China in November.  She speaks a little bit about her in this webinar.  you can hear about her from 34:09- 34:53.  I'm really hoping that Pat was able to meet her again since she is in China now.

Another detail about this little darling is that she likes music and musical toys.  I always love those little details that help you to see the child.  She is shy and quiet, but slowly warms up as she spends more time with someone.

Little Di Di's file was recently changed to special focus because she had a couple of seizures.  Her file includes updated medical records after the seizures.  Nothing was found that would have caused them.

[Another edit]
I should have said that Di Di is designated to Gladney through a partnership program with the orphanage she is in.

Please contact me at erinmrtn@yahoo.com if you want more information.

Waiting Child- Da Da

Update 09/05/2012:  Da Da is now on the shared list and can be adopted through any agency!!

Meet Da Da!  He is a charming, bright little fellow waiting for a forever family.  He is living in southern China.  He is a 9 year old boy.  He is a healthy boy who is a "waiting child" simply because of his age.

He is smart and makes good grades in school.  He is learning some English words.  Da Da has been in foster care since 2005.  His favorite activities include playing tag and playing with toys similar to Transformers.  And this little tid bit is my favorite.  He does not like Chinese poetry.  Pat Marcus met him in November and he recited a piece of Chinese poetry to her just to show her how terrible it was!  Not that she could understand it, of course...  Too cute!  Sounds so much like something Freeland would do!
You can read more about him and see more photos here.  You can also access a webinar where Pat describes meeting him here.  She talks about Da Da from 22:42-24:42.  He sounds like such a wonderful little boy.

And he has been waiting too long. If you would like more information about Da Da contact information can be found in the first link above.

Methinks I'm Going to do a Bit of Advocating...

And I'm absurdly excited about it!  So far I've had 100% success.  Remember "Xin Xin"?  She has been matched with a family!!

So, when I was communicating with our caseworker at Gladney about advocating for "Xin Xin" I asked her if they ever need volunteers to be involved with Superkids Charity.  She replied that they generally send therapists and doctors to orphanages to provide their services for the children there.  But she did say that she would mention it to the founder of Superkids.  So I figured that that was that, and that if I wanted to be involved in advocacy it wouldn't be through Superkids.

Long story short, Pat Marcus recently contacted me about taking a more active role in Superkids.  I'm not sure what all it will involve but I can't wait to find out!  So stay tuned for further updates!

By the way, Pat is making final preparations for another trip to Shanghai and Jiangxi province.  She is trying raise $3,000 and she has a little over $1,000 raised so far.  If you feel led to contribute, please follow these steps.

1) Go here.
2) Click on the "View Challenge" button beside Superkids.
3) On the left hand side of the window, select "Find a Participant".
4) Enter her name "Patricia Marcus" and click "Search".
5) Click on her name (highlighted in blue).

Best wishes for a successful trip, Pat!!
